What is a Sodium blood test and Why is it important?
Sodium, also referred to as Na+ is an electrolyte present in the human body. Electrolytes are basically minerals that are electrically charged and help in maintaining the chemical balance and fluid levels of our bodies. Sodium also plays a pivotal role in maintaining the proper functioning of muscles and nerves in the body. Most of our sodium needs are fulfilled from our diet. Once the sodium need of our body is fulfilled, the kidneys get rid of the rest through urine. If the sodium blood levels of a person are too low or too high, it may mean that the person has a kidney problem or other medical condition.
