What Is a HSG Test or a Hysterosalpingogram

The hysterosalpingogram, or HSG, is a medical procedure performed on women to check for fertility-related problems. The doctor inserts an x-ray dye, called contrast material, into the uterus and fallopian tubes by passing a thin tube containing the dye through the cervix and vagina to check for abnormal areas inside the female reproductive system. You may feel slight discomfort and pain while the procedure is performed. You may even experience mild to moderate cramping if you have blocked fallopian tubes.
