Phlebotomist/Sr. Phlebotomist
Job Summary
Will be responsible drawing blood and other tissue or fluid from patients for testing. He/she will properly identify patients and correctly use phlebotomy methods to draw blood or any other tissue or fluid. He/she will tag each sample and work closely with the lab to make sure that the proper samples are delivered for each patient in time and proper state. The successful candidate will also deliver excellent patient service, answer patient questions, act as a resource for patient information and strengthen the relationship between the patient and our entire medical facility.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Arrange daily activities based on urgency of requests for sample collection.
- Identify patients and their personal information and their test requirements.
- Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health etc.
- Ensure that blood/sample is collected using sterilized needles, vials and other equipment.
- Collect and tag specimens exactly as outlined in each medical requisition.
- Label samples correctly and send or deliver them for testing.
- Keep accurate records on fluid specimens and tests.
- Send the sample/specimen to laboratory within the time limit as instructed.
- Ensure sample/specimen are sent to laboratory with relevant care.
- Convert any patient query to business while he/she is on out Centre/home collection.
- Deliver reports to patients given address as and when required.
- Billing patients’ prescription in absence of Receptionist.
- Any other work as and when required
Skill Requirements
The Phlebotomist should have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in the same industry and should possess the following set of skills:
- Knowledge of legal requirements about drawing blood, handling fluid samples and use of relevant medical equipment and material.
- Attention to detail
- A good team member.
- An individual who can work well under pressure or in stressful and demanding situations or environments.
- Should be a good communicator and a good coordinator.
- Good Understanding of all diagnostics tests.
- Should be able to operate computers.
- A good bike rider.
Educational Requirements
The individual must have a DMLT degree. Academically he should beat least Higher Secondary Passed. Graduate will be an added advantage.
Salary and Benefits
His/Her salary will be per company Rules. He/she will also be eligible for reimbursement of expenditure incurred for travelling to patients place to collect samples for testing at our Laboratory.
